ground control points

A multiple object installation project based on the measuring instruments used by cartographers, researchers, military and hobyists to systematically map the Earth's surface. This involves measuring the environment against an abstract object whose exact dimensions and shapes are known by its user.
In other words, the unexpected shapes of the earth's surface are measured by a rigid metric shape that has no natural equals.

The ground control points in this project are designed to reflect on how these abstract symbols are physicaly present in everyday reality and on how reality is subject to the abstraction created to understand reality.

In this duality, the form also finds its origin: most of the forms in this project reflect the way in which distance is taken from the earth, not with a drone like the original ground control points but in an analogous way, with a kite, a staircase, a ladder or a mountain.
